Hurghada Districts

Hurghada stretches along the coast from north to south. It's a long city. In the north is the prestigious Al Gouna, in the south — Safaga. There are many districts between them, and each with its own character, pros and cons.

Al Gouna

Prestigious and eco-friendly area. Only 5* and luxury 4* hotels. It is called the "Egyptian Venice" — there are artificial canals, yachts, electric cars instead of cars. It is very green, clean and beautiful, there is the best school and hospital in the region.

Pros: status, security, silence, well-developed infrastructure, unobtrusive service.

Cons: very expensive real estate.

Beaches and swimming: 5-15 minutes on foot, there are free beaches

Suitable for families with children, connoisseurs of comfort

Al Aheya

A long area with a free wide beach, rare for Hurghada. Gentle entrance to the sea, coral in places. The north has free access, while the south is occupied by hotels. There are schools, and housing is cheaper than in the center. It used to be a tourist destination, but now it is actively developing, residential complexes, resorts, and infrastructure are being built.

Pros: budget accommodation by the sea, spacious beaches, much quieter than in the very center, actively developing.

Cons: it's a long way to the center, but there are minibuses.

Beaches and swimming: 5-15 minutes on foot, there are free beaches.

Suitable for those who are looking for budget accommodation by the sea.

Al Helal

A peaceful green area right by the sea with low-rise houses and villas. It is located near the administrative center and the Palace of Culture. There are free beaches, few cars, and no signals. One mosque (a rarity for Hurghada), the construction of a Christian church is planned. There are many expats, mostly Europeans (Germans, Austrians, Swiss), and many Russians. There is a sports club, a diving school, a surf school, a city library and a public garden. The area can be bypassed in 40 minutes. The passport office, where foreigners apply for visas, is just a 10-minute walk away.

Pros: quiet, greenery, family atmosphere, cleanliness, prestige, no intrusive trade, 15 minutes by car to the center.

Cons: fewer shops and entertainment options.

Suitable for quiet family life.

Al Dahar

The historical part of the city where the locals live. There's a market, banks, hospitals, and a visa extension department. An area with a characteristic colorful atmosphere: noise, traffic, streets, smells, active street trade, vibrant daily life.

Pros: low prices, color.

Cons: noisy, dusty, crowded.

Beaches and swimming: 20-30 minutes on foot, mostly hotel.

Suitable for those who find it important to be "in the heart" of urban life and pay less.

Arabia

Mixed area: there are both large residential complexes with sea views, many with their own beaches, and hotels. There are many tourist sites, cafes, pharmacies, shops, souvenir shops. A balance between the hustle and bustle of tourism and a quiet life.

Pros: accommodation by the sea, well-developed infrastructure.

Cons: dense buildings, busy streets, noise in the season.

Beaches and swimming: 5-10 minutes on foot, often at complexes.

Suitable for an active life by the sea with infrastructure and without too much fuss.

Al Hadaba

One of the old residential areas of Hurghada, it is often called “Hadaba Road” for the main street Sheraton Road, which runs through the area. It is located on a hill with 5-storey buildings. Lots of affordable housing, popular with hotel workers and expats. There are accessible beaches nearby.

Pros: prices, proximity to the sea, well-developed infrastructure.

Cons: noisy, little greenery.

Pros: status (Marina), entertainment (Sheraton)

Sheraton flows smoothly into Mamsha, a long pedestrian street along the coast of Hurghada. Tourist area, many shops, cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, walking areas. There are always a lot of people, especially in the evening.

Cons: expensive housing, no privacy.

A small residential area on the second coastline. The area is young and has been under construction since 2004. It got its name from the InterContinental Hotel (now the Continental Hotel Hurghada).

Pros: affordable prices, tranquility, quiet, prestige, proximity to the sea and the Mamsha area, modern residential complexes, convenient location for recreation and investment.

Cons: there is little private infrastructure and entertainment, it is focused on recreation, not permanent residence.

Beaches and swimming: 30-40 minutes on foot, there are no free beaches, but there are complexes with their own beach.

Suitable for: long-term rental and permanent residence in the middle price range.

A large area with minimal infrastructure. It's inconvenient to live without a car — shops and hospitals are far away. But there is plenty of space and beautiful beaches (mostly owned by hotels). The area is quiet and sparsely populated, consisting mainly of villas and low-rise buildings.

Cons: it's hard without a car, there are few services.

A resort area in the south of Hurghada, known for its sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The area is mainly built up with luxury hotels offering a variety of amenities and entertainment. Large-scale investments from foreign investors, including companies from the United Arab Emirates.

Pros: luxury vacation, privacy.

Cons: far from the center, there is little infrastructure.
